The USK Faculty Team carried out a community service activity in Gampong Kuta Ateuh, Sukakarya District, Sabang City, on Saturday, August 3, 2024. This event involved providing guidance to cattle and goat farmers on processing feed from environmental waste and the importance of maintaining the health of livestock to maximize weight gain. The participating team included faculty members from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, the Faculty of Education, and the Faculty of Economics and Business.
The head of the community service team from FVM-USK, drh. Baidillah Zulkifli, M.Si, stated that this activity is part of a series of community service initiatives. “We have named this activity ‘Academic Collaboration for the Empowerment of the Kuta Ateuh Community,’ abbreviated as KAMI PEKA, based on local wisdom and waste utilization. Additionally, this service represents an interdisciplinary collaboration among several lecturers from FKH, FKIP, and FEB aimed at developing the human resources in the Gampong Kuta Ateuh livestock sector,” explained drh. Baidillah Zulkifli on Sunday (August 4, 2024).
Meanwhile, Fachriza Ambia, M.Pd, a lecturer from FKIP USK’s Physical Education, Health, and Recreation program and facilitator of the event, remarked, “Collaboration among the community, government officials, and universities, especially USK through its academics who are concerned about community welfare, is crucial. Activities like this are expected to optimize the growth and development of human resources in Sabang City,” said Fachriza.
She further explained that the community service included a series of guidance sessions. These sessions involved guidance for farmers on waste utilization, presented by drh. Lailia Dwi Kusuma Wardhani, M.Si, and health services for cattle and goats, provided by drh. Daniel, M.Si., attended by 5 farmer groups from Gampong Kuta Ateuh. The community service will continue with additional phases, including training for early childhood education teachers on using natural materials for learning and investment socialization for the community.
To support this activity, 6 thematic Comunity Services Students from USK from the Study Program of Veterinary Medicine Bachelor – Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and the Study Program of Early Childhood Education program – Faculty of Education, also participated.
