Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK), through the Student Activity Unit HiMPHarsia at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH), once again played an important role in the health inspection of sacrificial animals for Eid al-Adha 2024. The launch of the 2024 Supervisory Team for Qurban Animal Inspection and Slaughter (SPPHQ) took place in the courtyard of the Aceh Governor’s Office on Tuesday, June 11, 2024.
Chairperson of HiMPHarsia USK, Kurnia Ramadhani, stated that their efforts are in collaboration with the Indonesian Veterinary Medical Association (PDHI) Aceh Branch and the Aceh Livestock Service.
“SPPHQ aims to ensure animal welfare during the slaughter process, guarantee that qurban animals are free from zoonotic diseases, ensure the safety and eligibility of the meat, and uphold hygiene and sanitation standards throughout the slaughtering process,” said Kurnia.
Chairman of the PDHI Aceh Branch, Drh. Nurdiansyah Alasta, M.Kes, noted that around 600 participants joined the joint team launch, including PDHI members, FKH USK students, and staff from the Aceh Livestock Service. They will be deployed across 36 villages (gampong) and 51 locations throughout Aceh.
The Acting Governor of Aceh, Bustami Hamzah, expressed his appreciation for the collaboration, which involves conducting health inspections of qurban animals in various villages across the region. He conveyed this message during the official launch event.
He emphasized that these inspections benefit not only the animals being sacrificed but also public health at large.
“Healthy animals are not only a requirement for the qurban ritual but also ensure the quality of the resulting meat. In the religious context, the health of qurban animals is a central focus to ensure the halal status and sanctity of the sacrifice,” said Bustami.
To the inspection team, he conveyed hopes that they would carry out their duties with the highest level of professionalism and responsibility. He believes that by providing excellent service to the community, this initiative will bring real benefits to all parties involved.
“This activity is concrete evidence of the shared concern and strong synergy between the government, academic institutions, and society in supporting public health and the smooth implementation of Eid al-Adha rituals,” said the Acting Governor of Aceh.
