Banda Aceh, November 14th 2024, the Biochemistry Laboratory of the Veterinary Medicine Faculty Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK), successfully hosted a Workshop on the Application of the Kjeldahl Tool for Protein Analysis in Animals. This event marked the first training initiative organized by the Biochemistry Laboratory, designed to provide lecturers, laboratory staff, assistant laboratory staff, practitioners, and students with knowledge and skills in using the Kjeldahl tool for protein testing.

The workshop featured expert speakers from the Aceh Standardization and Industrial Service Center (BSPJI), namely Cut Najla Seirin and Sofyani Insanil Kamil Nabsam. The event was funded through a laboratory grant from the 2024 budget.

The opening ceremony was led by the Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, USK, Drh. Teuku Reza Ferasyi, M.Sc., Ph.D., at the Biochemistry Laboratory located in Building D, 2nd Floor. Following the opening, the Head of the Biochemistry Laboratory, Drh. Herrialfian, M.Sc., presented a report detailing the event’s purpose and goals.

The primary aim of the workshop was to optimize the application of the Kjeldahl tool for animal protein analysis. During the practical sessions, participants worked with a variety of samples, including milk, mackerel, tilapia, skipjack tuna, catfish, broiler chicken, free-range chicken, duck eggs, and chicken eggs. In addition to enhancing participants’ technical skills, the workshop is expected to support the research capabilities of lecturers, laboratory staff, and students. It also serves as a strategic initiative to promote the Biochemistry Laboratory’s services as a key facility within the Veterinary Medicine Faculty, USK.
