Shanghai, China, June 13, 2025 —
A proud achievement has once again been made by students from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universitas Syiah Kuala (FKH USK), at the prestigious international event, the 8th China (Shanghai) International Invention and Innovation Exhibition 2025, held from June 11–13, 2025, in Shanghai, China. In this globally recognized competition organized by the World Invention Intellectual Property Associations (WIPA) China, in collaboration with the Indonesian Invention and Innovation Promotion Association (INNOPA), the FKH USK team won a Gold Medal for their innovative product titled CARIN (Cat Tamarind).
CARIN (Cat Tamarind) is an antibacterial and antifungal shampoo made from tamarind leaves (Tamarindus indica L.), specially formulated for the care of cat skin and fur. This product was developed as a natural solution utilizing underused local ingredients for pet care. Through scientific methods, the shampoo has been tested in laboratories against several pathogenic bacteria and fungi commonly found in cats, and has also been trialed directly on animals with promising results.

The CARIN FKH USK team, led by Yudha Alva Fernanda and member Muhammad Haikal, was mentored by Wahyu Eka Sari, S.Si., M.Si., a lecturer from the Veterinary Public Health Laboratory at FKH USK. Previously, this innovation also won the Best Presentation Favorite Award at the 36th National Student Science Week (PIMNAS) at Universitas Padjadjaran, Bandung.
“Alhamdulillah, by the grace of Allah SWT, CARIN has reached the international stage and earned recognition in the form of a gold medal. This proves that local innovations can compete globally,” expressed Yudha Alva Fernanda and Muhammad Haikal, accompanied by their advisor, Wahyu Eka Sari, S.Si., M.Si.
Rector of USK, Prof. Dr. Ir. Congratulations and my deepest thanks to the hard work of both the students and their supervising lecturers, as well as all parties at USK who contributed to this gold medal achievement,” stated Prof. Marwan.
Dean of FKH USK, Drh.
