In celebration of its 64th Anniversary, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universitas Syiah Kuala (FVM USK) held a guest lecture event by inviting two speakers. The speakers were Professor Ho Sang Kang from the Institutes of Green Bio Science and Technology (GBST), Seoul National University (SNU), and Mawar Subangkit, DVM, MSi., PhD., a lecturer at the School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (SKHB), IPB University. This event took place on Friday, November 8, 2024, in the FVM USK Auditorium.
Professor Kang presented on the topic, “The role of wildlife conservation for sustainable forest management in South-East Asia.” In his presentation, he discussed the impact of forest fires on the environment, including their effects on wildlife. To prevent environmental damage, Professor Kang provided 10 recommendations. In addition to discussing this topic, he also introduced the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) at SNU.
Next, Dr. Mawar Subangkit presented on “Improving Research Quality Services and Digital Laboratory Technology Application.” Her presentation covered the challenges of laboratory services and discussed the current trend towards more practical and digital-based technology. The presentations by both speakers were moderated by Drh. Baidillah Zulkifli, M.Si., a lecturer from the FVM USK Physiology Laboratory.
The event was opened by the Dean of FVM USK, Drh. Teuku Reza Ferasyi, MSc., PhD. In his opening remarks, the Dean of FVM USK expressed that the presence of both speakers at FKH USK was an extraordinary blessing. After meeting Prof. Kang at SNU in Seoul in late October 2024, the visit was followed by a reciprocal visit by Prof. Kang himself to FVM USK. The Dean of FVM USK hopes that through these visits and public lectures, mutually beneficial collaboration among SNU, USK, and IPB University can be achieved in the future.
Following the guest lecture, a Memorandum of Agreement was signed between FVM USK and the Asian Forest Institute (AFI), Korea. Additionally, an Implementing Agreement (IA) was signed between the Animal Health Diplome Program and the Veterinary Medicine Study Program at FVM USK and AFI.
